Frances T. Carr has lived in Ellsworth for the past 16 years. At 77, Carr knows what she likes. And she really likes Dunkin' Donuts' coffee.

It's kept her coming back every morning of those 16 years to the store on the corner of High Street and Main Street, a local landmark and frequent stopping point for hordes of summer visitors on their ways to and/or from the abundant charms of Mount Desert Island.

Last Saturday, that Dunkin' Donuts shop served its last donuts and last cups of coffee to its faithful java drinkers.

Carr was there at the counter doing what she's always done: sitting at the curved counter, sipping coffee and making friends.

"You meet a lot of wonderful people at the counter," said Carr.

Ellsworth's Dunkin' Donuts moved about a mile down the street over the weekend to its new location in the Mill Mall.

Owners Cindy Sanchez-Austin and Lou Lima are thrilled with the move.

The only downsides are just the initial set-up problems and "getting the bugs out," said Sanchez-Austin. Once everybody gets used to the new equipment, "look out," she laughed.

The old store had been at the High and Main location since 1971.

Crowds came and went at the old shop on Saturday. Some people were a little wistful. Most were looking forward to the increased parking area and the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream outlet that will be sharing space with the donut and coffee shop.
