Dunkin’ Brands CEO Jon Luther was interviewed on CNBC by anchor Maria Bartiromo last week (link here). Luther discussed the purchase of the Dunkin’ Donuts chain by three private equity firms, and laid out the company’s national expansion plans. Bartiromo also brought up the inevitable clash between Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks, and Luther played up the value and convenience proposition without mentioning the Seattle-based coffee giant by name.
“You don’t need a dictionary to order our products. We’re small, medium and large, and really easy to use,” said Luther in a veiled reference to Starbucks’ cryptic cup sizes (tall, grande and venti). “We’re for mainstream America,” he emphasized.
