A first-grade teacher who knowingly drove her car to Dunkin’ Donuts on a flat tire–ruining her wheel rims in the process–is the subject of a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial airing locally in Massachusetts.

The prospect of facing a classroom of first-graders before having her morning coffee was not an option for Dracut resident Lyn Misserville. So when she got a flat tire on her way to work, she had an important decision to make. Her need for a morning coffee outweighed her need for a tow truck.

“It’s not something I’m particularly proud of,” said Misserville, who teaches at the Parthum Elementary School in Lawrence. “The first thing I thought of was, ‘I need a coffee.’”

Misserville turned her 2005 Toyota Corolla around on Route 113 in Dracut and drove five miles to the Dunkin’ Donuts on Lakeview Avenue, next to the Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, where she picked up a medium regular iced coffee with extra sugar before calling for help. The incident, which happened in October, is the subject of a new Dunkin’ Donuts ad campaign based on true customer stories that reveal the great lengths people will go to for Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

Misserville, whose decision to drive on to get her coffee cost her nearly $200 to replace the tire and the rim, received a $500 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card for her story. She is now eligible to win a grand prize from Dunkin’ Donuts offering free coffee for life. Who says loyalty doesn’t pay?
