The city’s historic district commission approved designs Monday for a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise on the northwest corner of Centre Square.

Plans include combining Mundo Latino and the former Planet Pizza into a single 15-seat 1,700-square-foot restaurant. The store’s main entrance will be situated on the corner of the Mundo Latino storefront facing North Third Street.

Plans also show a walk-up window fronting Third Street and an exit facing Centre Square.

City council must approve a certificate of appropriateness at its Aug. 9 meeting because the property is in the local historic district. Project architect David Herbert said the lease for Mundo Latino expires in three weeks.

“The minute (the tenant) walks out the door the contractors will walk in the door in a perfect world,” Herbert told the board.

Construction should begin within 30 days, he said after the meeting.
